The competition process provides a timeline of what to expect while the award is open.

Early Submission (May 20. to June 30.)

Awarding Ceremony

In November 20

Once a year, agencies, designers and companies from all over the globe are invited to take part in the New Zealand Best Design Award: Brands & Communication Design. In the ‘Brands’ section, companies can choose from 114 industries to be in with a chance of winning the title of “New Zealand Best Design”. The ‘Communication Design’ section offers a choice of 20 categories when entering individual communication projects and creative works. All of the entries are assessed by the New Zealand Best Design Jury in line with the guiding principle “In search of good design and creativity”. Award-winning brands and projects can use the internationally renowned New Zealand Best Design Label and also have access to further benefits.

Entry rules

Agencies, designers and companies from all over the globe can take part in the New Zealand Best Design Award: Brands & Communication Design.  and that were not already entered in the New Zealand Best Design Award: Brands & Communication Design in the past. 

Judging Criteria

• Innovation: whether the design concept is innovative, or is extended on the existing basis

• Peripheral system integration: as a part of the system, whether it can be integrated into the system environment. Whether the relevant processing problems are solved

• Intuitive and easy to use: how the product communicates its purpose without the user reading the product manual, and whether there is a difference between artistic conception and image

• Symbolic meaning and emotion: in addition to the immediate practical use, whether the product can provide a different experience for the user in terms of sensory, emotional or interesting usage
