In 2001, the design award recognised the need to identify and celebrate new design concept and innovation, the precursor of today's design challenges and tomorrow’s great product. Believing a design concept must be evaluated based on its design merit without prejudice, this design competition created a unprecedented platform that accept entries from companies to design students.

Entry rules

It is open to anyone, to all design studios, companies, universities, research laboratories, inventors, design students and design professionals from around the world. There is no limit on the number of products each participant can sign up for.

Judging Criteria

• Innovation: whether the design concept is innovative, or is extended on the existing basis

• Ergonomics: whether it is suitable for the user's physical body structure and mental conditions

• Product peripheral system integration: whether it can be integrated into the system environment as a part of the system

• Modelling quality: whether the appearance is pleasing to the eye

• Intuitive and easy to use: how to communicate the purpose of the product without the user reading the manual, whether there is a difference between the artistic conception and the image of the product

• Symbolic meaning and emotion: whether it can provide a different experience to the user in terms of sensory, emotional, or interesting usage in addition to the immediate practical use
